Our Messy Church in April was based on Bible Verse Luke 21:1-4
The Widow's Offering
1 Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, 2 and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins.3 And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. 4 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
Down the Chute – The old lady let go of her money and did not hold onto it tightly. We built a framework of tubes around the pulpit and raced marbles and coins down it.
Edible Coins – we decorated biscuits and edible coins with special designs
We made Purses to help keep our money safe., beaded Jewellery to remind us how rich people showed off their wealth with expensive jewellery and generosity Jars to encourage us to save up to give to charity. t
Take your generosity jar home and put it in a place where everybody can see it. Talk about what you can do as a family to fill the jar, perhaps saving loose change, or everybody putting in a certain amount each week. As a family, decide who you would like to give the money to—perhaps a favourite charity.
Dear God, thank you for all the things you give us. Help us to make kind choices about our money and possessions, so that we are not selfish, keeping all we own for ourselves, but remember to share with other people. Amen
