January's theme was “One Body, many parts”, which is based on 1 Corinthians 12:12-31. This compared the human body and its different parts with the Church, which is full of individuals with different gifts or talents. St Paul wrote that just as the whole body cannot be made up of eyes, the different individuals in Church have different roles to play. This might include leading, prophecy, teaching, healing, administration.
Our activities helped us to understand how all the different parts of the body are important and work together.
Because we (the Church) are the body of Christ, we also bring our talents and gifts.
Have you ever stubbed your toe? How did it affect your whole body? The Bible tells us that we are like parts of the body – when one part (person) doesn’t do its job, the rest of the body is affected.
It is important to take care of our earthly bodies and to be grateful for them. However, the truly critical element of our being deals with the state of the heart and what lies inside the body.
Our physical bodies are the temple of the Lord (1 Corinthians 6:19-20); therefore, we must care for them, but also remember that they are tools for His use. More important than our appearance or physical fitness is how we serve God.
